Overview
According to recent research, up to 20% of the UK population is neurodivergent. By appropriately accommodating neurodivergent talent, local government will not only benefit from increased employee satisfaction, but increased moral, creativity, problem solving, productivity and a reduction in staff turnover.
This highly interactive online 3x hour session will delve into neurodiversity in the workplace. We will address common myths and misconceptions about neurodiversity and examine the benefits of hiring and accommodating neurodiverse individuals.

Any elected member, officer or council employee who manages people and wants to develop and enhance their understanding of neurodiversity and its benefits in the workplace, and how to creative inclusive work environment that supports neurodiverse individuals.
Course Outline – Agenda

- Explanation of different neurological profiles (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, etc.)
- Emphasize the strengths and challenges associated with each profile.
- Importance of neurodiversity in the workplace.
- Benefits of hiring and accommodating neurodiverse individuals.
- Practical strategies for supporting neurodiverse individuals in your council.
- Accommodations and adjustments that can be made to promote inclusion and accessibility (with local government case studies).
- Conclusion and Summary.
Learning Objectives (success criteria)
Delegates will leave this course with an increased neurodiversity awareness and will be able to give a basic description strengths and challenges associated with each of the different neurological profiles.
Delegates will explore the benefits’ neurodiversity can bring to the workplace and to their team’s problem solving and creativity skills.
Delegates will explore several practical strategies for supporting neurodiverse individuals in your council and understand some basic adjustments that can be made to promote inclusion and accessibility.
