Overview

This three hour live online course explores the difference between efficiency and effectiveness and gives delegates a number of tools to help people make the best use of their time at work and become as effective as possible.

The session consists of tips, techniques, and activities to enable delegates to delegate better and deal with conflicting priorities. Finally, delegates will be given a three-step model which will help them dealing with interruptions and behaving assertively.

Who should attend?

This course is well suited to any councillor or officer who wants to be more effective and get the most from the time they invest.

  • Introduction, efficient vs effective
  • The urgent vs important matrix
  • Understanding your priorities
  • Recognising conflicting priorities
  • Delegating effectively and an 8-step delegation tool
  • Personal performance levels vs time of day
  • Behaving assertively and dealing with interruptions

Learning Objectives (success criteria)

By the end of the course delegates will have explored the difference between efficiency and effectiveness and considered their top-level priorities which define their effectiveness.

Delegates will be given several tools and models which when used habitually, the tools should help people feel they have more choice and control in deciding how their time is spent.
